Circular economy in Africa:
 examples and opportunities

T
This collection of insights on the circular economy in Africa explores key questions about accelerating the circular economy on the continent.

It looks at the potential of the circular economy in a selection of key economic sectors across the continent and highlights existing circular economy practices. The collection focuses on what lessons and inspirations can be drawn from these practices, rather than offering specific solutions or recommendations. It also covers the opportunities in terms of economic development and job creation, and the wider social and environmental benefits.

The sectors explored in this study are...

Automotives
Built environment
Electronics and e-waste
Fashion and textiles
Finance
Food and agriculture
Plastics
Policy

The insights further consider the key role of public policy and the financial sector in creating the enabling conditions needed for the transition.

The collection of articles is the result of a joint effort led by four organisations: Ellen MacArthur Foundation, ICLEI Africa, Chatham House and the University of Lagos to combine their complementary knowledge and expertise on this broad topic. While the collection was curated by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, it reflects a plurality of views and analyses.
